Come and celebrate birdsong with a guided walk at Great Avon Wood. Although it is International Dawn Chorus day we are not asking you to be here for sunrise but offering the opportunity for a slightly more leisurely start, some lovely refreshments and to appreciate the wonderful birdsong in the early part of the day.

The woodland, hedgerows and open country are ideal for a mix of woodland and countryside birds singing to protect their territory and busy feeding their young. This is the third year we will be running this very popular walk and Ed will be helping everyone to listen to particular birds and perhaps learn one or two of the common sounds. We hope to hear birds such as blackbird, blackcap, robin, song thrush, skylark and chiffchaff. It is also a chance to simply enjoy listening to birdsong and the sounds of nature.

Ed Drewitt is no stranger to an early start and over the past 20 years has been showing people birds and helping others to hear and identify their songs. Ed is a freelance naturalist and works across the west showing people wildlife.

Please be aware this walk will include slopes and uneven ground. There are no hard-standing paths at Great Avon Wood and we are not able to allow dogs at events, except for assistance dogs.

This walk is part of the Bristol Walk Fest programme of events. Please check out the Walk Fest Website to see the full range of events running from 1st to 31st May 2026.

This event is free to attend and we are very grateful to the National Lottery Heritage Fund for their support. We ask that you are respectful of the free place and make a commitment to attend when you sign up.
